About Summer SunDay
What is Summer SunDay?
Summer SunDay is a half-day hike up the beautiful Mount Tamalpais in Marin County on July 24, 2011. It is a fundraiser for At The Crossroads, a nonprofit organization that works with homeless youth and young adults in San Francisco. Hikers send out 3 or 4 pre-written sponsorship emails to their communities to raise support.

When does the Hike occur, and how long does it last?
The hike place takes on Sunday, July 24. You can start the hike anytime between 8 and 10 AM. The full hike, which is about 7.5 miles, will take 3.5 to 4.5 hours, including breaks. The 3-mile loop will take about 1 to 1.5 hours.
How does it work to participate?
- You sign up
- You upload a picture and write a few lines for your site about why you are doing the hike
- You send out three or four pre-written emails (edit it however you please) each at different times, asking your friends to sponsor you
- You go on a beautiful hike, have a delicious lunch, and hang out with other awesome hikers
How do I get there?
Click here for to see a map and directions to Rock Springs. If you can’t get there on your own, we’ll provide the transportation! Parking is limited, and ATC will happily provide shuttles for our hikers. Just email us at summersunday@atthecrossroads.org and tell us that you want ATC to give you a ride, and we’ll follow up.
What are some of the best things about this hike?
- No minimum fundraising requirement. We just ask you to send three or four emails and try your best.
- The registration cost is cheap ($20, kids under 18 are free). Same cost as a movie and popcorn, two drinks at a trendy bar, or a main course at many SF restaurants. And if the registration cost is a problem, we’ll waive it.
- If you can’t do the full hike, you can still join in – we’ll also have a 3-mile loop for anyone who wants to do a shorter hike (good for families!). Do whatever you are capable of! We do not discriminate.
- There will be guided hikes leaving throughout the morning, with ATC staff and Board members leading the way. It will give you a chance to get to know ATC and our community a little better. You’ll get details when you sign up.
- If you don’t have a car, we’ll get you there.
- You’ll be done and still have much of your day left
- Have you been to Mt. Tam? It is gorgeous.
Why should I do it?
Here are FIVE reasons:
- You’ll get outdoors, get tan, get fit, and experience some serious natural beauty
- You’ll have a ton of fun with our other hikers and the ATC community
- You’ll work off all the hot dogs (or veggie dogs) you’ve been eating this summer
- You’ll get a delicious picnic on the mountain when you have finished your hike
- All of the money you raise will go to help homeless youth and young adults in San Francisco, so you can feel good inside and out
Why shouldn’t I do it?
- You hate sun, beauty, cool people and not-so-strenuous exercise
- You hate having fun
