We Think SF Skate Club Can
Support San Francisco Skate Club's "Skate Dreams" Campaign while helping homeless youth
Goal
The SF Skate Club has embarked on a challenge to create our first full length video featuring youth from our program. At the end of the campaign, our youth will not only see their "Skate Dreams" come true on the big screen, but also will have helped raise money for a non-profit organization doing the important work of connecting with homeless youth. Please help us reach our goal of raising $2500 for At the Crossroads.
I chose this goal because
Last year, we participated in this campaign and held a "skate-a-thon" in Golden Gate Park. The kids really enjoyed being a part of it and knowing that they were helping homeless youth in the city that they live in. This year, we chose a campaign that gives our kids the opportunity to express themselves creatively and work toward a final project to share with their friends, families, and campaign supporters. The film will showcase the kids accomplishing their skateboarding goals, as well as acting in skits and short-film style clips. We hope that this experience will help our kids realize that they have the power to make a difference.
I'm helping because
We know that homelessness is an increasing problem in San Francisco, which is why we feel particularly compelled to support ATC for working to connect with homeless youth, who are often overlooked, disregarded, and/or stigmatized in our society. As skateboarders, we understand what it is like to be confronted with negative stereotypes and to not have the support we need to pursue our love for skating.
We were introduced to ATC by Paula Williams, a long-time supporter, whose 11-year old daughter has participated in our program. One of the co-founders of SF Skate Club, Thuy Nguyen, has also had the opportunity of volunteering with ATC and seeing, first-hand, the genuine connection and positive relationships that ATC's founder, Rob Gitin has with the homeless youth in our city.
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
