We Think SF Skate Club Can
Support San Francisco Skate Club's Campaign while helping homeless youth
Goal
On Sunday, March 29th from 8-11am, SF Skate Club (www.sfskateclub.com) will hold a "skateathon" on JFK Dr. in Golden Gate Park with our youth and friends to raise money for At the Crossroads. Get ready team, because we are going to shred it!!!
I chose this goal because
We love to skateboard, and we want to impress upon the public that (contrary to popular opinion) skateboarding is a healthy and positive activity enjoyed by children, youth, and adults who appreciate and care about their community and the use of open space.
I'm helping because
We know that homelessness is an increasing problem in San Francisco, and we particularly feel the need to support ATC for working to connect with homeless youth, who are too often overlooked or disregarded in our society. Besides, who better to support ATC than skateboarders who understand the challenge of being stigmatized and not feeling like they have a place to call their own? We were introduced to ATC by Paula Williams, a long-time supporter, whose 9-year old daughter is a part of our Skate Club. One of the co-founders of SF Skate Club, Thuy Nguyen, has also had the opportunity of volunteering with ATC and meeting the Executive Director, Rob Gitin, whom she thinks is awesome and hopes will get that date with Sarah Silverman.
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
