Goal

Find a girlfriend

I chose this goal because

It's about time! Plus, I've had good luck so far with my past campaigns: the first year, I vowed to get a driver's license. It may have taken me two years, but I did it! The second year, I made a secret pledge to start a blog http://halfalonging.blogspot.com) and donated money to ATC, and I did that, too! Third time should be a charm!

I'm helping because

At The Crossroads does great work with street youth in San Francisco, and with integrity. They focus on what kids' strengths are, and build on that. It's good stuff.

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Updates

Ok. So, as you know, my campaign is to find a girfriend! An update: I had a date with the pagan math teacher!!! Except, it wasn't exactly earth-shattering. Let's just say we had some stylistic differences (fanny pack? really? mc hammer pants? what?). So, we trudge on. But I did go out to "Blood, sweat, and queers" at the Li Po Lounge on Chinese New Year's, which was super fun, and Helly Gay, in Oakland, which wasn't, but there some cute people there so maybe better luck next time. And then there's the 2 folks Kristen wants me to meet in LA??? If you donate another $250 I will go. Make it work people. Give ATC some love.

OK guys. So the donations are piling in and the pressure is on. How are we doing so far?

I've followed through on several of the steps in my ten point plan to get a girlfriend:

1. I created a profile in an online dating thing (big deal 4 me!)

2. I selected a decent picture to use (and it's not of a cat)

3. I've written to two people on it.

So, where has that gotten me? Well... the first was a pagan math teacher (go nerds!) We talked on the phone. She apparently has many other suitors, but we're supposed to have a date sometime.

I also wrote to a tranny lawyer with questions about law school. Maybe not so smooth? We'll see if I get a response.

I also got "winks" from some people but I think one of them is a fake profile that is maybe selling Russian wives. Yikes!

Now, onto phase two: going dancing (which involves staying up past 10:30 p.m.). Next weekend is Chinese New Year's, which is a big thing here in SF. I've got plans to go to not one, but THREE hella gay dance nights this month, so we'll see! If anything, I'll get my rusty old dancin' bones working again.

Well, the getting the cats out of the bed thing isn't exactly working: they're waking me up at 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30, and 6:00 a.m. every morning, but it won't stop me from trying!

Okay, taking inspiration from the Black Panther Party, my first step was to develop a ten point plan. In no particular order:

1. Post an ad on an online dating site (a major first!)

2. Make sure I have a decent picture to use

3. Go thrift store shopping for some better outfits

4. Go dancing twice a month at Mango & Hella Gay Oakland (it may not see like a lot, but it's a step up)

5. Drink two mason jars of water everyday to have great skin!

6. Stretch every morning

7. Walk up a big hill everyday

8. Write at least ten people who I think are cute (one for every week of the campaign?)

9. Get a haircut

10. Get my cats out of my bed!!!

So far, I've taken care of steps one and two, and am working on a few more. I've written to two people. I could even have a date with a math teacher! But if you want me to do more, you'll have to donate to my campaign. Now let's get these dollars flowin.

I think any woman who wants the cats out of the bed is not a keeper! But maybe that's why I need a ten pt plan myself.

What an inspiring list. Maybe I should follow it, just changing #10 to get ME out of my bed. Go on a date with the math teacher! It might add up to something... xoxo
