We Think Karin Can
Support Karin Writes and Reads! while helping homeless youth
Goal
Last year I committed to writing three poems to motivate me to put the pen to paper again. Thanks to the help and encouragement of family and friends I wrote three poems (two of them are sestinas) and I met my modest fundraising goal.
This year I will write three more poems, and I will up the ante by doing a reading (including what I wrote last year) at the Bernal Heights Literary Reading series on February 27, 2010.
I chose this goal because
I chose this goal because it is difficult for me to make writing a priority and I miss the literary life. I would like to write more, read more, share my work at a reading, and begin submitting my work for publication again.
To do this I must first start by writing. My goal last year to write three poems got things moving in the right direction. This year's goal to keep writing and read at a public venue increases the stakes. Maybe in 2011 I will set a goal of submitting my work for publication...
I'm helping because
I support ATC because of the way the organization chooses to support homeless youth in San Francisco. The organization's mission speaks to me as a citizen, mother and human.
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
