Goal

Last year I committed to writing three poems to motivate me to put the pen to paper again. Thanks to the help and encouragement of family and friends I wrote three poems (two of them are sestinas) and I met my modest fundraising goal.

This year I will write three more poems, and I will up the ante by doing a reading (including what I wrote last year) at the Bernal Heights Literary Reading series on February 27, 2010.

I chose this goal because

I chose this goal because it is difficult for me to make writing a priority and I miss the literary life. I would like to write more, read more, share my work at a reading, and begin submitting my work for publication again.

To do this I must first start by writing. My goal last year to write three poems got things moving in the right direction. This year's goal to keep writing and read at a public venue increases the stakes. Maybe in 2011 I will set a goal of submitting my work for publication...

I'm helping because

I support ATC because of the way the organization chooses to support homeless youth in San Francisco. The organization's mission speaks to me as a citizen, mother and human.

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Updates

Hello ATC supporters and friends! I have completed my campaign and I raised $330 for ATC. And might I say It is more like a mini-series of poems that I wrote, and I did three readings instead of one. My conclusion: ATC is good for my writing productivity. Next year: poetry submissions! Thank you all for your support: financial, psychic, literary and otherwise. Consider having your own campaign next year. It is a great motivator for a good cause.

Thank you all for your campaign support, and thanks to my mom, who made a $50 contribution. (The contribution was made old-school, mail a check to your daughter style, so it hasn't posted yet.) That means I have raised $320 of my $400 goal! Fantastic. I will read at the Bernal Yoga series this Saturday and finish my three poems soon! Thanks for all of your support for this campaign.

Thank you all for your support. I am close to reaching my fundraising goal of $400-. Thank goodness the campaign is Karin Reads and Writes, as I did another reading this weekend. Thanks to Cris for inviting me to read at her party at LiveWorms gallery in North Beach on Sat night. And thanks to all the other artists and writers there. Keep the ATC contributions coming. I have one more reading in May and 3 more poems to write!
