Goal

I think I can kick a very nasty habit of watching really, really terrible television on the internet.

...yes, it's true! I've been secretly devoting hours of my time to the brain-rotting, time-wasting likes of Grey's Anatomy, Gossip Girl, Brother's and Sister's, and sometimes even America's Next Top Model. I am especially susceptible during moments of great stress or tiredness; the moments when I should be sleeping or writing or cooking something delicious to eat.

My tactic is to go cold turkey on internet TV throughout this spring semester... but I'll need your help! I will write sporadic updates on my triumphs- a sleepy moment well spent sleeping- and/or my moments of weakness- logging on to ABC.com...

I ask for your support in attaining my goal, which will in turn support the work of At The Crossroads. You might donate little bits of encouragement, $10 per show not watched (probably an average of three per week), or maybe large sum in celebration when I reach the summer. AND (here is the real clincher) I will promise that for every show that I watch, alone, in a mode of procrastination, (even just a little bit of one) I will donate $20- a hefty sum for a student!

I THINK I CAN!!!

(with your help)

ps- someone else has a "TOP CONTRIBUTOR PRIZE" which I think is a fabulous idea!

Therefore, the top contributor prize will be an EARLY SUMMER DINNER for six cooked by Yours Truly (minus alcoholic drinks)

I chose this goal because

WOW... so many reasons! A few include:

- Watching bad TV rots the brain.

- I grew up without television and I don't see any rational reason to change that fact now.

- Sometimes watching these shows fills the head with babble so that it is difficult to sleep.

- There are so many important things to do in waking moments during the day. Why waste them?

- Watching television can become addicting... losing control to a computer screen is just freaky.

- The internet should be used as the amazing tool that it is, not as a source for watching and supporting corporate entertainment.

-I am almost positive that I am not the only one with this problem... so I thought I'd share the experience!

I'm helping because

Our local society, culture, and legal system has some major problems including (but certainly not limited to) youth criminalization and homelessness. It seems to me that At The Crossroads is doing some really crucial work, providing resources and mentoring for these young people.

As for me, I'm hoping to help support the work at At The Crossroads financially and maybe start a few dinner-table conversations about how we interact with other people and what that means for us and for them.

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
