We Think Jenny Can
Support an aspiring writer with creaky joints while helping homeless youth
Goal
My goal is to post at least 50 blog posts in 10 weeks on my new blog:
http://understanding-psa.blogspot.com/
That's one blog post per weekday.
I chose this goal because
If I succeed in my goal, I will be able to help three needy causes.
The money that you donate will help ATC, a non-profit I believe in.
The blog will give me a place to start documenting what I'm learning about Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA). Believe it or not, despite the fact that somewhere around 2 million Americans (LIKE ME!) suffer from this disease, there is no book devoted to just PsA, and most websites or books which do include PsA only give it a page or two. Ambitiously, I hope that my blog eventually will give people who suffer from PsA a place where they can find information, optimism, sympathetic humor and the latest research findings.
And I will get what I need, which is motivation to write something every day. As many of you know, writing was one of my goals for this first year living in Portland. But, because of the PsA, that goal has been moved to the back burner. I want to use the "I think I can campaign" to get me moving!
I'm helping because
Jordan, Zoe, Sam and I have been huge fans of At the Crossroads for years. In fact, at the age of 3 months, Sam said "wow, guys, I'm exhilarated that there is an organization in San Francisco which is so focused on helping homeless youth - give ATC some money!". We became donors 5 years ago, and haven't looked back.
Seriously... what I admire most about ATC is that they don't push a message, don't preach, and don't shove services at kids who aren't ready for them. Instead, outreach workers from ATC walk around the worst neighborhoods of San Francisco in the dead of night with backpacks on their fronts, finding homeless kids, and giving them a sandwich, or dry socks, or condoms. Stuff these kids need, but often can't get for themselves. Then outreach workers do what adults often have a hard time doing - they listen. If you want to learn more, go to ATC's website, and be amazed.
Please help me (and Jordan, Zoe and Sam) in supporting this fabulous organization. And help me get some writing done! I'll never know if I like it if I don't try it!
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
