We Think Jennifer Can
Support Jen's Hot Mess Campaign while helping homeless youth
Goal
To be less of a Hot Mess.
More specifically, my goal is to attend classes regularly, BE ON TIME, do homework, sleep like a human, gain back part of my scholarship, and to make steps towards generally being less of a hot mess.
I chose this goal because
I have always struggled with school. Not so much the academic aspect of school, but the showing up part. And the doing stuff part. This had led to considerable anxiety, mediocre grades, and general disappointment with myself.
Since this school year began (in September), I have managed to start and finish a significant number of (entire) television series, including, but not limited to: Veronica Mars; Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip; The West Wing (for the third time); Sports Night; The Wire; Thirtysomething (no, you have probably not heard of it); John Safran vs. God; Jack and Bobby; and The Shield. While this in of itself is fairly absurd, when considering I am technically a full-time law student, it begins to border on destructive, and maybe even a little pathetic.
I have managed to exist on an average of four hours of sleep per night, catch the flu twice, and sustain approximately six colds. I have also developed a number of psycho-somatic manifestations of stress, including: headaches; hives; twitches; runny nose; sore throat; voracious appetite; chronic pain; snapping scapula; aching hips; and what might be an ulcer. This must stop.
Depending on how I do this semester, I have the chance to gain back part or all of my scholarship for my final year at law school. I also have the potential to not go completely crazy. And so for the first time since perhaps my freshman year of high school, I hope to be prepared. I aspire to be seated when the class begins. And I aim to attend all of my classes. Help me help myself (and homeless youth).
I'm helping because
I love ATC. I think what it aims to do and how it pursues those goals is exceptional, outstanding, and inspiring. ATC addresses issues that are often overlooked and reaches people who are often misunderstood and misrepresented. And as my campaign might suggest, I think we can all use a little harm reduction in our lives.

About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
