Very inspiring Grace. Not only are you doing a fantastic service for these kids, you are taking on what Im sure will be a difficult yet incredibly rewarding effort to make yourself healthier. Very cool. Best of luck!

You go girl! This is an awesome cause. I write grants for at-risk kids all the time and I know how hard it is for homeless young people. I'm only donating $25 though because I don't want no stinkin' sugar free dessert! ;-)

Goal

My goal is to not eat sugar for the entire month of April. This means I will not eat ice cream, cookies, candy, pastries, or anything that has any type of sugar listed in the first three ingredients.

If you donate $50 or more, I will make a delicious sugar free dessert for you and a guest of your choice.

If I raise $1000 or more in donations, I will stay off of sugar for the month of May too.

I chose this goal because

If you know me, you know I have a sweet tooth the size of Montana, and I'm pretty sure I'm a chocoholic. I know the amount of sugar I eat isn't good for me, and I want to take some steps to make myself healthier.

I'm helping because

I have been volunteering with At the Crossroads occasionally for the past year or two. The work they are doing is amazing. ATC hits the streets to find the homeless youth no one else is helping and to offer them whatever help they need. Imagine being a young person with no place to stay. How scared would you be, and how much would you wish there was someone there to understand and to help you? ATC is dedicated to doing exactly that, but they need our support to do it. Come on, people - I'm giving up Ben and Jerry's, so make a donation already!

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Updates

Just a quick note to say that the Kiel family rocks! Thanks for your support!!!

And the Bakamjians do, too!!

Indeed they do! I was including all things Bakamjian under the rubric of Kiel - mea culpa for the severe lapse in feminist sensibilities!

Man, this whole no sugar thing is really hard! Do you have any idea how many things are chock full of sugar? My rule is that if sugar is one of the first three ingredients, I won't eat it. Well, guess what? That rules out just about any kind of cereal, pretty much any flavored yogurt, and almost every barbecue sauce. That's right - barbecue sauce. I found a grand total of one bottle at the grocery store (actually I checked three different stores) that didn't have added sugar, and a lot of them had high fructose corn syrup as the very first ingredient! Gotta read those food labels, people. So much for staying away from cookies being my biggest challenge.

Anyway, almost through the first week - thanks for all of your support!!!
