We Think Chelsea Can
Support Health is Wealth for Me and ATC! while helping homeless youth
Goal
I need to get serious about developing and sustaining healthier habits in my life and the I Think I Can Campaign provides the perfect opportunity to take this challenge on! I just recently moved to the Bay Area from the Midwest (Ohio) and its time to get settled in for real. In order to do this, I feel like I need to work on a couple areas of my routine.
February 1st marks the day when the following actions will start developing into my healthier habits:
1. Going to the gym! I already have a YMCA membership for Oakland, but now I just need to get off the couch and go. Beginning Feb. 1st, I will be going to the gym twice a week.
2. Eating more fruits and vegetables! As a seasoned vegan I've learned what junk food is actually vegan: oreos, frosted honey buns from the corner store, etc. Not good. Beginning Feb. 1st, I'll be switching my evening snack 3x a week from junk food to a lovely fruit or vegetable.
3. Keeping in contact with friends! Graduating school and moving across the country has made it difficult to maintain all of my friendships as best as I would like. Beginning Feb 1st, I'll be contacting 1 friend/family member each week. Emails, phone calls, letters all count as communication -- texts do not count!
Every week I'll be posting on my campaign page with updates on how my workouts are going, what fruits and vegetables I'm eating, and who I've been (re)connecting with.
I chose this goal because
Feeling grounded and centered in my life is really important to me -- and my campaign goals will help me achieve those things. I'm definitely starting a new chapter in my life - living in a new city (in a new state), having a new job, and making a new home for myself. I want to do these things the best I can, which is possible if I'm taking care of myself, getting exercise, and staying connected to my friends/family.
I also have an amazing job that means a lot to me, and taking care of myself at home means that I'll be an even better Outreach Counselor when I come to work.
I'm helping because
At The Crossroads is an amazing non-profit that works so hard to help young people in San Francisco. I am not only impressed with the work that ATC does, but how ATC carries out this work (taking backpacks out on the streets, meeting young people where they are, and having no agenda-- just to name a few ways that ATC works to achieve its goal of supporting homeless youth in San Fransisco). The impact that this organization has on the lives of its clients is too great not to get excited about and to support it through the I Think I Can Campaign.
I am honored to work for this organization and I'm happy to work on a campaign that not only allows me to help ATC, but to achieve some of my own personal goals.
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
