Good job Catherine!

Goal

I will write (and research to write) at least 2 hours/day for at least 5 days/week for 14 weeks and see what develops: the start of a memoir? the start of a novel? some travel writing? some truly awful cowboy poetry?

I chose this goal because

Our friend Camille the poet reminds us that women used to spend a couple of hours at their desk writing, receiving notes, maintaining a literate life. Can I return to that notion? I've always been a storyteller and 'splainer; I'd like to capture those stories in a more disciplined way. I'd like to discover if I have a writer inside me.

I'm helping because

I'm aging. I don't want to spend my more vulnerable years surrounded by feral young people, rightfully pissed at my generation for failing to provide them with the hope, the skills and the resources to lead satisfying, productive lives. I'm counting on ATC to help achieve that goal.

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Updates

I'm at about the 12th week. The good news is that I'm spending the required couple of hours at the computer each day, am caught up on e-mailing. Bad news is that I've joined Facebook - so far no real benefit except finding a few friends and reminders of family birthdays. What's the benefit here? Have a new story to send along to the e-mail list, Three more weeks to the campaign: we'll see if the collection of stories adds up to anything very compelling, won't we?

Weel, another week another struggle. I have pput some words on paper; still don't feel like it's at the share-able stage.

Some good news: I've just been published, an article about aspen tree documenting in the Sierras (honest - it's more entertaining that that sounds). It's in the winter edition of the Hot Air Quarterly, a Shasta County Literary Journal. They are considering a poem for their spring edition. Whooo-eeeee!

I'm making up an e-mail list of those of you who have contributed or let me know that you wioll support when I've reached my goal. I'll send along the poem, and a little fable that I wrote some time ago - all on a geology theme.

Thanks for the support.....I'm keeping at it.

Thanks to all of you who have formally contributed, and to those who have let me know directly that you'll contribute when I get my meet my goal.

I'm struggling. I'm trying to write fiction, and am astonished at how difficult it is to move outside my comfort zone of travel writing/descriptive stories. My production is pretty modest, it's hard to get my seat into the chair for two hours every day, and the actual writing still seems wooden.

Meant to say as well: sorry about that 'Donate $1'. I tried to recommend a donation of $1 for every day I met my goal: the software doesn't permit that lengthy a suggestion. Regardless, that would be about $70.

My goal for the upcoming week of 2/8 is to loosen up, for heaven's sake, and get to writing, however lame the result.
