Happy 30th Birthday, Bonnie! I hope you have a great day volunteering with your friends. Wish I could be there to help you celebrate, but I'll be a couple thousand miles away in still snow-covered D.C. You are such an inspiration to me, and I hope to have half as much accomplished as you have, by the time I'm 30! Love you always.

What a great cause! I've been known to give homeless people on the street a buck or twenty, but I never really know where that goes. I hope for the best. It makes me feel good and hopefully it makes their day a bit brighter.

Goal

Introduce 30 people to the wonderful world of volunteering. I'm using my 30th birthday as an excuse to rally my friends to bring friends and join me for a couple of hours working at the San Francisco Food Bank followed by a dinner to raise money for At The Crossroads.

I chose this goal because

Volunteering has truly added so much to my life and I would like share the amazing experience with others. I believe people would volunteer more if they realized how easy it can be to help and if they were matched with an organization they connected with. I chose to hold my event at the SF Food Bank because their volunteer projects are simple and, since they are the main supplier of food in our community, volunteers are actually helping more than 400 organizations including ATC!

I'm helping because

Everyday my heart breaks as I pass homeless people, especially the young ones, but I'm so conflicted with how to help. Give them a buck? Food?? The moment I walked into the positive and inviting At The Crossroads office and met the passionate team, I knew I had found my answer! I am confident that donating time and money to ATC is absolutely the most effective way to make a real difference for San Francisco's challenged homeless youth!

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Updates

Wow! Had such a great time at the event last night! 37 fantastic volunteers showed up to the Food Bank and we bagged up over 2,400lbs of rice. Feels incredible to have surpassed my goal of 30 volunteers and to have raised over $1,400 for At the Crossroads!

Thanks to everyone for the amazing support!!

Just a little over a week away and have 21 people confirmed for the event at the food bank. I'm doing my final push this week hoping I can get 9 more!

Thrilled I made my 1st goal of $300 - I'm lucky to have such generous friends!! I've bumped the goal up to $600 so fingers crossed I can hit that too.

I just sent out the evite for the Food Bank event last night and 9 people have said they will come. Not bad for one day but I'm still nervous about finding 21 more people. mmm - definitely going to have to get creative about hunting down more volunteers!
