We Think Amanda Can
Support Amanda's Campaign while helping homeless youth
Goal
For my goal, I am going to teach myself to play blues guitar and re-learn to sing. I will do this by practicing every day for at least 30 minutes. If I reach my goal of raising $1000, I will perform publicly at an open mic to a song of the highest donor's choice (and will donate any $ they pay me to stop to the ATC as well).
I chose this goal because
Guitar is a hobby I've always wanted to pick up again but have a million excuses not to. It's also something I've told myself is too hard for me. And singing in front of people (sober) scares the bejeesus out of me, so I think doing something scary once in a while is a good goal to have.
I'm helping because
ATC is an amazing organization that helps homeless youth reach their own goals on their own terms. I believe this causes lasting change by raising personal accountability. I started out volunteering regularly at Prep Nights on wednesdays, then occasionally helping out as I can by baking for parties, donating, or coercing my friends into volunteering with me. I help ATC because I know they really make a difference in the lives of homeless youth. One night after volunteering, We were leaving in the hallway and a client stopped and thanked us, saying, "Thank God for you volunteers, ATC saved my life."
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
